I feel the page resting on my fingertips. As I read, I find one of my fingers has slipped anxiously to the next page ready to turn on cue. The page feels soft and light and I find myself drawn to the texture of the paper. Coarse, yet smooth. Bumpy, yet flat. With every turn of the page I repeat the pattern. Turn the page and reach for the next. Until I close the book in my hands and instantly I feel the difference. The light airy pages have transformed into a weighty substance. It feels heavy and solid in my hands.

I sit with the book in hand and my mind begins to drift. I have a story to tell. We all have a story to tell. If only I could share this with the homeless man I drove past yesterday, or the mother in the store hands full of screaming children. The stories are all so different, as we are each on our own page, but the story is ours to tell. I think sometimes we get caught up in the texture of our page. You see, some pages are smooth and flip by fast and easily. While others are torn and tattered, folded and creased and harder to flip past. For some, the pages become sticky and stuck and the story never changes.

But what about the other pages, the ones left unwritten.

This is when we have to look past the texture of our pages and feel the book in our hands. For the book tells the whole story and we must ask ourselves, what do we want that story to be? For the pages that follow, we get to write. For the characters may change and the plot may twist and turn, but we get to choose how we write our story.

So what page are you on? How many more do you have and ultimately what will you write?

This post is part of a special blog circle of military spouse photographers. Each month we have a theme and we each interpret what it means to us and share. Here is the next blog post from Lea. Enjoy.
